Lunch Program

Public Law 95-561 extended the National School Lunch and Child Nutrition Acts to include the Department of Defense Dependents Schools overseas. The hot lunch program is provided by Army & Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES), which has been appointed the School Food Authority. School lunch menus are prepared using available commodities and available kitchen equipment.

AAFES school meals are analyzed by a Registered Dietitian to ensure that they meet USDA nutritional guidelines and that they follow the U.S. Dietary Guidelines for Americans. USDA nutritional guidelines specify that school lunches meet one third of the calories needed by school-age children. In addition, school meals must contain the proper amount of 5 key nutrients-protein, calcium, iron, vitamin A and vitamin C. Total fat content must be less than 30% of calories, with less than 10% of the calories from saturated fat.

The menu for each month is located on the link AAFES website; however, unannounced changes may occur according to availability of supplies. In general, students may purchase only full lunches or a carton of milk. All hot lunches cost $2.20. Free and reduced-price lunches are available and applications (AE Form 3707-R) may be obtained from the school office.

AAFES utilizes a Point of Sale (POS) school payment system in all AAFES-operated schools in enduring locations in Europe. Parents or students can place any desired amount of money into their account and can set daily spending limits. Once an account is set up, deposits can either be made at the school (during cafeteria operational hours) or at an AAFES PX/BX cashier cage.

Also, students may bring prepared lunches from home. If your child loses their meal coupon or money, they should inform the school cafeteria staff. The staff will make special meal arrangements to feed your child and notify you of the situation. In most cases, the student will receive a regular school meal with instructions on the proper repayment method.
